Centralized Electronic Library System
Many companies have identified the need for a centralized library system to manage the data that is used in the repair and overhaul of their complex equipment. Problems are multiplied when several libraries must be maintained for different user groups and multiple equipment types. JANA offers its Centralized Electronic Library System (CELS) as a cost-effective alternative to current document management strategies that meets the demands of innovative customers.
CELS is a high-value alternative to how documents are currently managed and maintained. Handling large documents like they are single pieces of data, it will put repair information into the technician's hands quickly, accurately and cost-effectively. Based on powerful XML content server technology, CELS combines full text search with W3C-standard XQuery language to unlock the value of content by enabling its conversion, query, manipulation, navigation, and rendering. This combination of technologies creates a fast and complete search solution for all library users. Popular document formats such as Microsoft Office, HTML and Adobe PDF are automatically converted into structured XML without DTDs or schemas. Paper documents can also be loaded into CELS using a pre-defined scan/OCR process.
Industry changes are forcing participants to review internal processes and procedures dealing with original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM) and other repair data. The events causing change include technology issues and the overall business and economic environment:
- New technologies make it affordable to store and manage large amounts of data in central repositories for distribution around the world. Security, data availability and transmit times are no longer concerns.
- Today's component repair business model is to outsource as much work as practical. Contracts go to the MRO that offers the best combination of cost, terms and turnaround time. Having accurate and up-to-date repair information in the right hands at the right time is critical to success.
Companies must also be concerned with managing data in accordance with export regulations and with the protection of the intellectual property rights of the OEMs. CELS enables system administrators to define access rights based on individuals or user groups to ensure that only authorized users have access to restricted data.
Current paper library management systems are inherently inefficient. CELS will eliminate duplication of effort through centralized management of all content. Technician time to acquire repair data will be significantly reduced by a powerful search engine that enables the right information to be quickly found and put to use.
